The members and leadership of the Culpeper County Republican committee have been rendered speechless by the tragic murder of Charlie Kirk. Our hearts are with his widow and children, and we are deeply touched by what must be their intense grief.
This unconscionable act that has taken the life of a man who stood up for that which he believed in, is an ominous sign of the loss of the value of humanity and of life itself. For that, we grieve deeply as well.
In a nation where freedom of speech is a right held by citizens, the senseless killing of a passionate patriot and well-spoken conservative advocate challenges that which we hold dear–life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Charlie Kirk has been stripped of these rights by someone who disagreed with him and chose butchery over conversation.
This is uncharted territory.
We don’t grieve for Charlie, for he is in the arms of his savior, Jesus Christ, whom he testified for every day. But we grieve for his family.
We grieve for our nation.
We call on all of our fellow citizens to establish a culture of civility and recognize that we are one nation, one people, and that every life is valuable.
