CCRC Volunteer Assaulted by Democratic Supporter

August 12, 2025

Press Release

On August 9th, 2025, the Culpeper County Republican Committee (CCRC) set up a tent at the intersection of Locust and West Streets, coinciding with the local Farmers Market. The CCRC’s presence was positively received by the community.

However, around 10 a.m., a masked individual entered the CCRC tent from behind, startling a female volunteer. He knocked down Republican signs and verbally assaulted her, causing her to fear for her safety.

After confronting the CCRC volunteers, the assailant went to the adjacent Democratic Committee tent, where he was welcomed by its members. They made derogatory remarks towards the Republican volunteers, suggesting they should contact immigration authorities, among other insults. As reported by the volunteers. Following this encounter, the assailant returned to the CCRC tent, continuing to intimidate and yell obscenities at the female volunteers.

The town police were called to the scene, and a formal complaint was filed about the incident. An investigation led to the issuance of an arrest warrant for the assailant. Assault is a Class 1 misdemeanor that could result in a year in jail and a $2,500 fine. The names of those involved will remain confidential until after the court proceedings.

In light of the incident, Chairman Larry Green of the CCRC denounced political violence and intimidation, asserting that no resident should fear for their safety while participating in political activities. He urged a unified condemnation of such behavior from leaders of both parties and emphasized the need for mutual respect in political discourse within Culpeper. Green encourages residents of Culpeper to remember this as you head to the polls on September 19: to vote for the party that has brought safety back to Virginia.
